Andaz San Diego has opened a new meeting and events space called The Gallery, following a $400,000 renovation at the Gaslamp Quarter hotel.
A statement from hotel operators said the art-centric, 2,209-square-foot space was designed by architecture and design firm Gensler, which also oversaw another recent $250,000 meeting space renovation at the upscale downtown hotel.
Operators said the centerpiece of the new Gallery space, located on the hotel’s lobby level, is mural designed by noted local photographer Christine Finkelson. There is also an original piece by local artist and gallery owner Alexander Salazar, along with two 12-foot mesh giraffes placed in the space’s atrium.
The space is the hotel’s former wine bar and can accommodate groups of up to 200 people. Operators said the 159-room Andaz San Diego, located at 600 F St., also has a new restaurant called STK San Diego set to open by year’s end.
